In Wyoming the Govenor has implemented a mask policy that has an excemption for people who have a disability or medical condition. You do not have to disclose what the medical condition is. The fact that Menards is a private store is not the issue. They operate a business in Wyoming, then they should operate under the rules of Wyoming. Persons with disabilities are protected under the ADA. We will never shop in Menards again.

The guy literally barked at me, im a nurse was one of the first people to wear a mask and this guy was demeaning and demanding in every way while also telling my child he wasn’t allowed in the store at all. The worse part was after all that the man had the audacity to point upstairs stating I could “buy one” when most stores were gladly giving them away for free if they required them to be worn. He was beyond rude and the no children in store policy wasn’t realistic in any way.

I just go there and spend my money.

Governor Evers implemented the mask law with the exception to those with a medical condition which my son has. He explained but then the ignorant Menards staff asked him what the condition was. HIPPA much? They made him leave the store my husband tried to talk to the equally ignorant General Manager who was just regurgitating the policy.
Meanwhile 3 people walked in selected items and purchased them all with no issues. They didn’t wear masks. Why is my nice, kind son being picked on? Why is the store flipping out over 1 person with a medical condition but ignoring others?
Please explain the spotty enforcement of a rule (and mess) they created? They either enforce 100% or not at all.

I was ganged upon by their employees for having my mask pulled down (and I have problems breathing due to my nose scarring from being severely burned and having no ears make it difficult for me to wear a mask). Other Mernards don’t have a problem with me and have better understanding about why i have trouble wearing a mask, but the on in Ottumwa is filled with a bunch of young and stupid people that think they are all that and have singled me out due to my burn scars and disability. The employees came up to me and I told them to keep the f… away. They kept insisting I needed to wear it and told the lady at the register if I come back and don’t have a mask on, then don’t ring her up. Yes, I went off on all of them, and looked at 5 of the employees gathering together (not practicing social distancing at all). They said I am not allowed to do that, but I said your video taping me the moment I come in without my consent. I feel if people want to wear them, then do so, but don’t force it onto everyone else and tell them what to do, especially if the employees are following the same rules they are telling others to follow. It’s funny that they pick on me all the time, but I don’t see them approaching anyone else not wearing their masks.

@s chipp
I fully agree that reviews don’t tell a full story

I agree that Menards did the right thing in implementing the policy to protect you, the customer and the business.

I also agree that some % of customers, particularly in this situation, have been selfish and ideologically driven to do selfish things. Given the intensity of the attack this might even have been driven by bad actors.

But a business can be right and still suffer more than necessary due to poor planning. I think, that is the case here.

Thank you for providing your direct first hand experience. I appreciate it.

Stay safe.

However, when reading customer reviews you have to do so with a grain of salt. Mostly they are over exaggerated. They are written while under emotional duress. We can’t even touch people who are shop lifting so highly doubt someone put their hand on their shoulders to escort them out the store for not having a mask. ADA complaints are the most laughable ones especially saying that menards need to read the rules. It clearly states that stores must offer an alternative to in store shopping which we have. Customers can order on line then drive in and pick items up. If I had $1.00 for every time I heard someone say I spent or am going to spend such and such dollars I would be rich. May 4th we had tasks issued where such in your photo at the beginning we had to build those big signs which are their to greet customers. Plus we had 4 to 6 signs on the outside of the doors in traffic cones notifying guests must wear masks. I believe that Menards has done a great job trying to protect us. It is the customers that continually put everyone at risk because they don’t want to wear a mask. If anyone had a health problem preventing them to wear a mask, then wouldn’t they be at high risk of contracting the virus??? Why are they going out to such a public place. That is the most absurd thing I hear from people saying they don’t want to wear a mask. I have a breathing problem, but yet they are yelling at us because we are doing our jobs!!!! Seems like your lungs are working great if you can yell like that. And on another note. All Menards stores are private property. Their house their rules!!!! If you have a rule to take off shoes while in your house and I walk in with muddy boots, would you let me stay in your house. We are all tired of this pandemic. Just do your part and put on a dam mask until it is over!!!!!
