Full Webinar Video

Each of our local SEO experts shared three top tips or ideas to leverage right now in your digital marketing and then went on to answer over 30 audience questions.

Google Posts With A Lot Of Attention

Claire Carlile shared some great information on Google posts in her opening tips. One was to use Postamatic for building a library and scheduling Google posts.

Google post tips scheduling

In addition to this tip, the panel answered multiple questions on Google posts regarding strategy, content, calls to action, post ideas, and more. It’s easy to see that local SEO’s are looking for as many ways to win with posts as possible. I of course chimed in that GatherUp’s social sharing feature is a great way to use posts for further reputation marketing.

Claire also shared that using Google’s Welcome Offer is a great way to engage prospects and build a following.

Keyword Research Using Google’s Auto-complete

I loved the simple idea Amanda Jordan from Locomotive Agency shared in her slides of using Google’s autocomplete suggestions for keyword research. The Google user behavior study from Backlinko shared that searchers use Google’s suggestions 23% of the time and that people that search for informational and local searches tended to click on an autocomplete suggestion more often than those searching with commercial queries.

Amanda also covered the news of Apple getting into business ratings / reviews in Apple Maps and outlined some great tips for how digital marketing agencies can show and grow their value to their customers right now. These tips included call tracking, lead type valuation, lead qualification, and reporting with organic search values to name a few.

The Biggest Review Acquisition Hack?

In my section I hit upon answering the question we get frequently “What is the best way to get more reviews?”. As marketers we want it to be something we optimize like the subject line of our email request, using SMS for it’s absurd open rates or the content in our ask. But it’s none of these.

While the above can move the needle tenths to maybe a full percent or two, the real results come from giving your customer a “heads-up” you will be asking them for feedback and a review.

Basic, but it’s what we see drive improvement when mastered from 5% to 50% or more. Nobody wants more email, but customers do want to feel heard and know that you will value their time and feedback in any structured format.

August Webinar Topics Covered

This month has offered two very large feature additions to the GetFiveStars feedback platform and we covered how to use these features and fielded questions from the attendees.  Here is what is covered in the webinar video and slides below.

  1. Survey Questions –  We looked at how to set them up, what settings to use, what types of questions you can ask and how to view reporting for them.
  2. Repeat Customer Feedback – Just this week we launched the ability to build a history of feedback instances per customer.  Mike and I reviewed the suppression setting, how it works and the new Customer Profile screen to give you all of the customer’s history.  One thing to note is the “suppression” setting will be the days from when the customer was “added” to GetFiveStars.
  3. Feedback Request & Review Request Options – We walked through each of the 3 options for your first touch-point with customers.  Features, pros and cons of each option were discussed at length.

March 2022 Webinar Agenda

The March 31st webinar included details on our exciting new features. The team has worked hard to build value within Social Sharing, as well as a valuable new tool to help agencies grow and scale.

Social Sharing allows you to share reviews on Social Media building your brand with consistent reinforcement from customers. Now you can automate the posting of these reviews through Automatic Social Sharing. We also reminded viewers that you can now post directly to Instagram.

The Reputation Scorecard, currently in beta, is a new feature that pulls a snapshot of a business’ online reputation versus its competitors. Agencies will use this tool to prospect and provide value during the lead generation process ultimately earning new clients.

Lastly, we discussed our latest integration to add customers which will launch April 6th. Google Sheets, the widely used spreadsheet tool, can now be used to add customers automatically to your GatherUp account to send review requests efficiently.

June Local SEO AMA Webinar Recap https://gatherup.com/blog/june-local-seo-ama-webinar-recap/ Mon, 29 Jun 2020 15:37:48 +0000 https://gatherup.com/?p=14124

Building off of our first Local Search AMA back in April, Mike Blumenthal hosted Joy Hawkins, Krystal Taing and myself to share local SEO tips, Google My Business changes, digital marketing strategies and more.

Full Webinar Video

Each speaker shared their top 3 tips right now for your local digital marketing strategies and we’ll feature a few of those below the video in this post. Dozens of questions related to Google, Google My Business, review gating, and more were answered in the hour long webinar.

https://vimeo.com/432478408

Google My Business Changes

You can’t spend an hour on local SEO and not cover Google My Business (GMB). 2020 and COVID-19 have brought about a lot of new GMB features and changes to existing ones.

Krystal Taing of Rio SEO highlighted two GMB related items to the discussion covering the “More hours” feature and the new and updated attributes.

More hours allows a business to select the hours for specific services it offers such as delivery, takeout, drive through, and pickup. Certain More hours can only be set for specific business types, so explore what is available to you and how to leverage this.

GMB more hours

Krystal also touched on new and updated attributes for GMB. These attributes display in the GMB profile and the 3-pack and help searchers take note of special services offered by the business. Many of the recent additions and changes center around COVID-19 and the expansion of service or purchase models businesses have switched too. Most recently Google has added call-outs for online care, online appointments, online classes, and online estimates.

Google’s Spam Problem

You can’t have Joy “the hawk” Hawkins on and not mention spam. One of Joy’s points focused on the always and current spam problem Google has with GMB listings. The example she hit on was shared by SEO Lily Ray in a series of tweets regarding fake listings in the rehab space.

Joy’s example showed how many fake listings accompany just one legitimate listing in the results for a search that could bring someone medical harm. Spam like this at Google can hurt a lot more than leads and marketers.

Reviews Gain “Content With A Click”

Google loves their attributes and recently has been releasing review attributes in many service categories. What started last year in home services categories has now expanded into most service type business categories.

Review attributes allow the consumer to add content and context to their review with just a click. Depending on the rating Google surfaces positive or critical attributes the reviewer can select. I see this as a really big change for Google reviews, so much so that we immediately worked to launch a new feature to monitor Google attributes.

Social Media Storytelling

A great way to draw attention to your business with some humor, facts, and visuals might be using storytelling. I was reminded of this by my local golf course that spent a few weeks giving a shot by shot tour of each hole on the golf course. The posts were well crafted, creative, emoji-filled and drew attention without working too hard to sell.

social media storytelling

As I mentioned in the webinar, any business type can find a story to tell. The example I used was a plumber could take a picture of each of their tools and then tell the story of the tools nickname, common uses, worst job it was used on, etc. There really is no limit if you want to be creative and take a different angle, an angle that social media is perfect for.

The Only Thing Constant In Local SEO Is Change

As our second AMA shows it’s not hard to have a lot of new information every two months in local search. Google My Business updates, SEO strategies, and digital marketing tactics are always evolving. I hope you enjoyed this one and stay tuned for our next one in August.

FTC & Reviews: March 2022 Webinar Recap https://gatherup.com/blog/march-2022-webinar-recap/ Wed, 09 Mar 2022 15:51:23 +0000 https://gatherup.com/?p=17920

On March 7th, Mike Blumenthal, co-founder of GatherUp and Near Media, joined to discuss the changing review landscape. He discussed the latest Federal Trade Commission guidance and how best to work within this new review environment. Steve Hartman showed GatherUp product updates made following this updated guidance. Watch the webinar below.

Watch the March 2022 Webinar

March 2022 Webinar Agenda

Mike set the stage talking about the shifting review landscape (2:00) and the new guidance for businesses (3:00)

But what prompted this updated guidance? Blumenthal went into the ruling against online retailer Fashion Nova and the fallout from that decision (5:15) . Business are responsible to know the rules, and how their review management platform, if they’re using one, is operating (6:50).

Next, Mike went into details on how this new guidance should be handled by platforms, such as GatherUp, and agencies. (7:40) Blumenthal also went into the risks of violating this FTC guidance. (13:25)

The final topic of Mike’s presentation was living with these new changes (15:50).  A large part of this discussion centered on the negative impact of review gating and review suppression. Businesses and agencies should be moderating their reviews, but also creating a terms of service or online review policy (20:10)

At the 25:00 mark, Steve Hartman, Product Marketing Manager, let attendees know about product changes GatherUp had made to address the FTC guidelines. The goal is to make sure the GatherUp platform is following best practices and helping our customers stay in compliance.

Finally, (31:30) Mike, Steve and Chris Walker answered a few questions from the audience.

Download the slides from this presentation here. GatherUp has also created a helpful user guide for moderating reviews and creating an online review policy.

The date for the next webinar has not yet been set, but look for an invite in the next few weeks.
