For an SEO, will be interesting to see what’s potentially indexable as a ranking or entity signal to Google, relative to the current use of Yelp reviews and data. The citation itself should be strong signal if it is somehow indexed or feeds other data outside of the Apple maps app (or potentially its own search engine). In the past, it’s been an “indirect” entity signal… similar to the mapquest or yelp data. I agree that yelp, etc. will take a hit from this if they stop using external data like that and nothing is indexed outside of their own Apple search engine. The whole verified user / apple ID aspect of bizconnect definitely makes it hard to manage at scale for agencies and larger businesses and franchises – would imagine an API for that is 5-10 years off lol. Definitely something to keep an eye on!

In reply to Michael Gburski. There is no indication that Apple is changing their SAB policy. So they weren’t eligible and continue not to be.

How is this going to affect service-area businesses? As it stands now, a SAB can’t get listed in Apple Maps unless they have a physical office. Most of my clients are carpet cleaners, locksmiths, etc. and have their office in their home.

If they did it would definitely be correlation which as you know is not causation. But I fear that Yelp salesfolks will call you several times a week until the apocalypse.

I like how Apple is introducing this in ways that will make it harder to produce fake reviews. Will this mean Yelp sales agents will stop calling me several times a week?
